Robots played a crucial role during the COVID-19 pandemic, from health care in and out of hospitals, automation of testing, supporting public safety and public works, to continuing daily work and life.
Indeed, Robots have 2 main major roles during the pandemic, the first one is in the healthcare sector in the fight against COVID-19 while the second role consists of dealing with tasks that humans cannot easily do when they are socially distancing or isolating.
Actually, Robots are used by hospitals, physicians, nurses, and receptionists to communicate with patients from a safe distance in real time. Moreover, specialized Service robots clean rooms and supply meals or medications, and even deliver contagious samples to research laboratories for testing.
In addition, Disinfection robots have gained more attention than before, in which many public and private facilities such as hotels, airports, malls, schools, hospitals,… etc are rushing to deploy mobile sterilization machines to solve the dilemma of microbial contamination.
Instead of manual disinfection which involves mobilization of the workforce and raises the risk of exposure to cleaning workers, autonomous disinfection robots such as SIFROBOT-6.6 could lead to quick and effective disinfection opportunities, with its intelligent navigation and identification of high-risk areas.
Yet, it uses safe sprays so there’s no chance of hazardous substances and can sterilize up to 500 cubic meters within a few hours which minimizes the need for a large cleaning staff to perform the sterilization task and helps more to contain the dispersion of COVID-19.
Briefly, as for Disinfection robots, the hydrogen peroxide vaporization technology combined with mobility and smart navigation system allow these robots to comprehensively sterilize a room or the addressed place within a few minutes.
Since fever is considered as an overwhelming common symptom of COVID-19, temperature measurement is mandatory. For this reason SIFROBOT-7.4 with its automated camera system that is used in combination with thermal sensors and vision algorithms, it is recommended to track people temperatures in hospitals, airports and public areas.
To sum up, Robots are in the front-line and showing their importance with the vital roles that they are playing during the pandemic. In other words, COVID-19 has accelerated the adoption and the need for robots “to take people out of hazardous jobs,” says Michael Perry, vice president of business development at Spot’s creator.
